2016 K. Hunter Goff Bankruptcy/Consumer Rights Scholarship Winner

Maria Flores, from Weston, FL and a recent graduate of Cypress Bay High School, is the winner of the 2016 Bankruptcy/Consumer Rights Scholarship sponsored by my law firm, K. Hunter Goff, P.A. Maria will take the $1,000 cash award with her to Nova Southeastern University this Fall, where she will start her work towards a Psychology degree.
Maria’s family immigrated from Venezuela when it became clear to them that staying in their home country could no longer offer a stable life for them. Upon arriving in the States, Maria’s Mom, who was a certified Pediatrician and Dermatologist in Venezuela, returned to school at FIU and was hired as a Nurse Practitioner shortly after completing her studies. Maria’s Dad also had to start over and took a job at a materials factory where he is now employed as a materials science engineer.
Meanwhile, Maria excelled at Cypress Bay High School, graduating 5th out of a Senior Class of 1,094 students, while logging 743 community service hours! Maria’s dedication to her studies and community, while handling, like a Boss, the challenges involved with starting life over in a foreign country was, and is, incredibly inspiring to me. Maria was chosen among 37 other terrific applicants, and I could not be happier to assist in some small way with her continuing education.
Good Luck Maria!
