The trustee in bankruptcy has different roles, depending on which type of bankruptcy you're filing. A Chapter 7 trustee's job is to look at the assets you have and determine which of those assets the trustee can sell and use the proceeds from the sale to help pay off your creditors. In a Chapter 13, the trustee's role is different. The Chapter 13 trustee takes your monthly payment and distributes it to your creditors according to a Chapter 13 payment plan that you file at the beginning of your case.
